SquidMan

Squid3SQUIDMAN: Scott Cassell, the intrepid Underwater Filmmaker and Naturalist, has become one of the leading world experts on the powerful and voracious Humboldt Squid, an animal whose domain appears to be expanding.

Scott used the DSPL LED-SeaLites® and a prototype DSPL Night Vision Camera to get shots in the dark green waters off Santa Rosalia, Sea of Cortez, Mexico for a new Discovery Channel documentary now being aired called "Squid Invasion," produced by Creative Differences. With this new camera technology, Scott was able to unobtrusively film the Humboldt Squid displaying natural behaviors never before seen by human eyes.

Scott called the white DSPL LED-SeaLites®, "incredibly awesome!" and looks to film a feeding frenzy of Humboldt Squid at night in white light to compare their behavior filmed with the DSPL Night Vision camera. "It is suspected they will behave more aggressively in white light because they will be more hurried.  The DSPL LED-SeaLites® is the finest light I have ever used," said Scott.  "It is durable, broad beamed and clear white color. It worked perfectly for use with the night vision system. I would spot the squid with the light, then turn it off for the NV to capture images. The light is perfect for HD video"

Pressure Facilities

PressureTeam2A high pressure job:
"Good guys!,"
said Chad Wiebe, a mechanical engineer with Progeny Systems, about DeepSea Power & Lights Pressure Testing Team.  Progeny came by to use DSPL's pressure testing facility to validate a deepwater design they are working on.  "DeepSea was flexible with scheduling, and interested in my project," said Chad

"Two of their engineers reviewed our test plan and made helpful suggestions in order to use parts they already had on hand.  There was convenient access to the pressure testing area and a tie-in to their network for data logging."

A new 20"ID x 48" x 23ksi chamber will be on-line in Spring of 2009.

You can find out about DeepSea's six pressure chambers, by calling
Ed Vega at (858) 430-4337.

Boating

Never Say Never Outfitted with 18" LED Thru-Hull SeaLite®

18LEDTHSL

"Love The Lights!," says the owner of Never Say Never, a 70' motor yacht outfitted with four of DeepSea Power & Light's new Blue 18 LED Thru-Hull SeaLites®.  The boat owner recently sent the company a few photos of the lights in action while crossing from the Turks and Caicos Islands to Fajardo, Puerto Rico.

One of the most stunning photos shows the blue LED lights illuminating the wash behind the boat while it is planing at high speed.

This is possible because the 18 LED Thru-Hull SeaLite® has special thermal compensation circuitry that automatically regulates the temperature of the LEDs, allowing them to run fine in a frothy wake, or even air, a feature lacking in most other LED underwater boat lights.  So, the fun never stops!

The Last Tango

Lights brings happy attention: The owner of Last Tango (Dana Point, CA) wrote DSPL Thru-Hull SeaLites® Sales Manager, Erik Goodin, to say, "Erik, the lights look awesome!"

"The boat was in a slip right next to the boardwalk in Dana Point and when we were outfitting it and working at night we couldn't even turn them on we got so many interruptions and questions."

Last Tango is a 28' Luhrs fitted with
2 eye-popping Blue 18 LED Thru-Hull SeaLites®.
