| The
SeaArc 5000 is the latest addition to DeepSea Power & Light's
well-established line of underwater gas discharge lighting. Designed
for demanding underwater applications where durability and high
efficiency are absolute requirements, this state of the art 70-watt
HID fixture offers an integrated ballast for maximum reliability
and is available in depth ratings of 1,000, 3,000, and 6,000 meters.
Gas
discharge lighting offers many benefits over traditional halogen
lighting. HID lights are typically 3-5 times more efficient (lumens/watt)
than comparable halogen lights. This increased efficiency enables
the SeaArc 5000 to generate an output equivalent to a 250-watt halogen
light, while consuming only ~70 watts of power. The whiter light
provided by the gas discharge lamp also penetrates further underwater
than conventional incandescent lamps. In addition, the average 250-watt
halogen lamp has a life of 2,000 hours and can experience filament
failure due to vibration, while the SeaArc 5000 70-watt HID lamp
has an operating life of approximately 12,000 hours and has no filament
to break.
A
key feature that distinguishes DeepSea Power & Light's SeaArc
5000 from similar fixtures is that the SeaArc 5000 utilizes an integrated
ballast. This means that the ballast is enclosed in the light head
assembly with the lamp and igniter, and as a result, only one interconnect
cable is required instead of the two cable configuration that most
users are familiar with when using a typical separate light/ballast
arrangement. Also, the SeaArc 5000 has been designed to be cost
effective for the end user by utilizing the same dome, cowl, and
retaining rings as those used on the proven Multi SeaLite and Deep
Multi SeaLite products.
Initial
market response to the SeaArc 5000 has been very favorable. Most
recently, a pair of SeaArc 5000's were mounted on a Navy MR-2 ROV
used during the U.S.S. Monitor turret recovery. Feedback was extremely
positive and by all accounts, the lights were a tremendous success.
