SAN
DIEGO, CA - DeepSea Power & Lights SeaSpheres™ are engineered to
be the highest performance buoyancy product available today for
missions to depths greater than 4000m. The spheres unique combination
of light weight and high strength allow for larger ROV payloads
and longer AUV survey missions in the worlds deepest diving vehicles
and scientific instrument platforms. Now, with the release of the
largest SeaSphere™ to date, a 216mm (8.5 inch) diameter seamless,
hollow ceramic sphere, DeepSea offers an alternative to syntactic
foam and glass spheres for users who demand a high buoyancy, minimal
weight float rated for full ocean depth.
SeaSpheres™
are currently being manufactured as the primary flotation for a
new ROV/AUV that will be used to explore the deepest areas of the
Challenger Deep (10,912m). The spheres were chosen for this application
based on their low "over the side" weight and their ability to withstand
the rigors of long deployments at extreme depths. Another advantage
of SeaSpheres™ is that they can be manufactured with varying wall
thickness' in order to tailor their weight and strength to mission
requirements. The spheres are also suitable for variable buoyancy
systems.
SeaSpheres™
are cast from high purity alumina (Al2O3), an incredibly strong
and lightweight ceramic. In fact, the material is so strong that
the spheres buoyancy increases with depth. Alumina is an excellent
electrical insulator, transparent to radio frequencies and virtually
inert in caustic environments. SeaSpheres™ are engineered with a
seamless design and held to exacting tolerances during manufacturing
and testing to insure a long and reliable service life. Plans for
even larger spheres are in development.
The ceramic spheres continue
DeepSea Power & Light's commitment to designing best-value products
for users who demand uncompromising quality, reliability and service.
